RANCHO CORDOVA, Calif. – March 2, 2026 –Ducks Unlimited is proud to announce the hiring of Brandt Meixell as its new Alaska Born to Fly Initiative Coordinator, a key leadership role supporting conservation efforts across one of the most important waterfowl regions in North America.
Alaska holds half of the nation’s wetlands and provides some of the most critical breeding habitat for waterfowl in the Pacific Flyway. With nearly 25 years of experience working throughout Alaska, Meixell brings an exceptional depth of knowledge to this position.
His extensive background includes overseeing and conducting waterfowl research in some of the state’s most vital ecosystems, including the Bering Sea, Izembek Lagoon, Minto Flats, the Yukon–Kuskokwim Delta, and most recently the Copper River Delta. This long-term, firsthand experience across Alaska’s diverse wetland landscapes uniquely positions him to guide DU’s strategic conservation efforts.
As DU works to expand its conservation footprint in Alaska, Meixell will play a central role in strengthening partnerships with public agencies, Native communities, and corporations that are essential to the state’s environmental and economic future.
DU looks forward to the leadership and insight Meixell brings to this vital initiative and is excited for the progress ahead in conserving Alaska’s irreplaceable wetlands and waterfowl habitats.
