WASHINGTON, D.C. – August 1, 2025 – Ducks Unlimited (DU) applauds the U.S Senate’s confirmation of Brian Nesvik as Director of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS). Nesvik previously served as Director of the Wyoming Game and Fish Department in addition to a 35-year career in the Army National Guard.
DU works closely with federal and state agencies, including the Department of the Interior (DOI) and USFWS, across North America to put conservation dollars to work. These partnerships are critical for fulfilling DU’s mission to conserve, restore, and manage wetlands and associated habitats for North America's waterfowl.
DU and the USFWS partner to deliver some of the most impactful conservation programs, such as the North American Wetlands Conservation Act (NAWCA), which has conserved more than 33 million acres, helped fund more than 3,300 projects in all 50 states, and involved more than 6,800 partners to date.
"We’re glad to see Brian Nesvik confirmed as the next director of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service," said DU CEO Adam Putnam. "The history of collaboration between DU and the USFWS dates back to our founding in 1937 and represents the incredible impact hunters have on conserving America’s natural places through programs like NAWCA and the duck stamp. Nesvik’s distinguished career as a public servant, including his leadership of the Wyoming Game and Fish Department, will make him a great partner as we continue our shared goal of stewarding America’s waterfowl and their habitat."
A Federal Duck Stamp is required to hunt waterfowl in the U.S. Ninety-eight cents of every dollar spent on duck stamps goes to the Migratory Bird Conservation Fund to purchase or lease wetlands and wildlife habitat for our National Wildlife Refuge system, which is critical to sustaining migratory bird populations.
