Ducks Unlimited restored 120 acres of wetlands on New York's Montezuma Wetland Complex, one of the premier waterfowl areas in the northeastern United States. The restored wetlands are located on Northern Montezuma Wildlife Management Area (WMA), which is managed by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC). These wetlands will provide valuable foraging and staging habitat for waterfowl and nesting habitat for endangered marsh birds. This project was funded by a North American Wetland Conservation Act (NAWCA) grant.

Among DU's partners on this project were NYSDEC, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, the Nature Conservancy, Audubon New York, Finger Lakes Pheasants Forever, National Wild Turkey Federation, Friends of the Montezuma Wetlands Complex, and Vanderbilt Marsh Club. Supported by a multiyear NAWCA grant, DU will continue its wetland restoration activities this summer, restoring two more areas on NYSDEC lands. In total, more than 1,000 acres of waterfowl habitat will be restored by spring of 2014 with financial support from NAWCA and DU's partners.
