Ducks Unlimited is working with the Desert Gun Club and other partners to restore and enhance approximately 300 acres of seasonal and permanent wetlands and associated uplands on this 850-acre private property located along Massie Slough, approximately six miles north of Hazen. The project will improve water distribution, increase efficiency of water use, increase acreage of wetland habitat and improve vegetation management capabilities. Upon its completion, the project will provide more reliable and improved wetland habitat for nesting and migratory waterfowl, waterbirds, shorebirds and other wetlands-associated wildlife. Additional partners in this project include the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Bruce Cunningham, Scott Snellings and the Desert Gun Club, and the effort has been partially funded by a North American Wetlands Conservation Act grant.
