Mason Valley Wildlife Management Area (MVWMA) in the Lahontan Valley in western Nevada provides one of the most important wetland complexes for waterfowl, waterbirds, and shorebirds in North America.
Ducks Unlimited enhanced 164 acres of seasonal wetlands and seven acres of wetland-associated uplands on MVWMA with funding provided by the North American Wetlands Conservation Act, Nevada Department of Wildlife and Elmer and Kim Bull.
Existing water-control structures were replaced, the land was recontoured and independent drain and fill capabilities were provided to the individual wetland units. Project work improved wetland management capabilities, water use efficiency, and public hunting opportunities on three management units at MVWMA.
Ducks Unlimited Inc. is the world's largest nonprofit organization dedicated to conserving North America's continually disappearing waterfowl habitats. Established in 1937, Ducks Unlimited has conserved more than 15 million acres thanks to contributions from more than a million supporters across the continent. Guided by science and dedicated to program efficiency, DU works toward the vision of wetlands sufficient to fill the skies with waterfowl today, tomorrow and forever.
