Noreen Walsh receives DU Wetland Award

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – March 23, 2022 – Ducks Unlimited (DU) recently unveiled the winners of its annual Wetland Conservation Achievement Award at the 87th North American Wildlife and Natural Resources Conference in Spokane, Washington, and applauded Noreen Walsh for receiving the honor in the federal agency employee category.

DU presents Wetland Conservation Achievement Awards annually in six categories to recognize individuals who have made outstanding contributions towards the conservation and restoration of North America’s wetlands and waterfowl.

While recently retired after a 31-year career with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Noreen spent the last 10 years as the agency’s Regional Director for Region 6.  Noreen supervised programs for an eight-state region that included the Prairie Pothole Region. She’s always worked with dedicated conservation partners, like DU, and provided leadership to the Prairie Pothole and Intermountain West Joint Ventures. Noreen always focused on collaboration with landowners, conservation organizations, and employees, whether she was tackling challenges like landscape-level conservation of western sagebrush rangelands and the prairie potholes or endangered species issues; she always focused on collaboration with landowners, conservation organizations, and employees. She served with commitment and dedication to people and our natural resources.

"My career has allowed me to work with some wonderful people on conservation projects with real, quantifiable results. But to be recognized by Ducks Unlimited for the fruits of our labor is a special honor," Walsh said. "Of course, the work is never done, so I look forward to seeing how we can all continue to find common ground among landowners, industry, conservation organizations, and agencies to ensure future generations will enjoy the wildlife and natural resources we’ve been blessed with in this country."
