MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Sept. 10, 2019 - Ducks in the desert? Yes, there are and plenty of them.

DU TV co-host Phil Bourjaily heads west to Nevada, joining DU volunteer Tom Enos and friends in their desert oasis.

And this week&squo;s show concludes with co-host Ashley Ward and Mississippi volunteers enjoying a stormy hunt near Tunica, Mississippi.

The Canvasback Gun Club near Fallon, Nevada, has a rich duck hunting history in and unlikely location. Nevada is the driest state in the U.S. It&squo;s not a place you would expect to see waterfowl.

That&squo;s what DU regional director for Nevada Mark Carion thought before he took the job.

"When I was first told about the position I thought 'Are there ducks in Nevada?&squo; which is a pretty common reaction,&dquo; Carion said. "What I found is there are quite a few waterfowling opportunities here.&dquo;

The club&squo;s caretaker for 43 years, John Carington, oversees the club wetlands. He&squo;s not surprised more people don&squo;t think about Nevada and ducks.

"It&squo;s one of the best kept secrets there is, waterfowl hunting in Nevada,&dquo; Carington said.

Heading east across the country, co-host Ashley Ward joins top Mississippi DU volunteers for their annual hunt and meeting.

A good time is had by all during an arriving cold front in January. Incoming Mississippi state Ducks Unlimited chairman Steven Bridwell was there in the middle of the action.

"We get together to be together,&dquo; Bridwell said. "Of course, we all like to shoot ducks, we love it, but we are going to have a good time regardless. We say 'our DU family&squo; and we mean it.&dquo;
