Memphis, Tenn. - September 20, 2018 - Shawn Kooyman was named Ducks Unlimited's (DU) Regional Director of the Year for his outstanding efforts as a staff member in Region 7, an area that encompasses the southeastern United States.
"This recognition is well-deserved," said Brett Baker, DU director of fundraising and volunteer relations. "I have seen Shawn's impressive passion for DU's mission grow over the last several years. Shawn keeps his volunteers engaged and focused on supporting the cause while having fun. Because of his dedication and drive, Virginia remains a top fundraising area in the country."
Kooyman, a resident of Richmond, Va., covers eastern Virginia and works with volunteer committees in this area hosting fundraisers for the 81-year-old conservation organization. Kooyman also received awards for $100,000 Growth Club/Regional Income, Grand Slam Award, Sustained Growth and Million Dollar Club - an award given to event fundraising staff who raise $1 million or more.
DU is the leader in wetlands conservation and volunteers are the heart and soul of the organization. Through more than 4,000 local fund-raising events DU volunteers generate more than 500,000 memberships and more than $65 million annually.
