Join the first North Dakota Waterfowl Brigade (NDWB) in Washburn, North Dakota, June 3-7, 2024. The NDWB is a five-day experience-oriented camp for kids ages 13-17. The overnight camp centers on the ecology of ducks and other water birds that make their homes in North Dakota. The North Dakota Waterfowl Brigade motivates youth to become conservation ambassadors by learning the necessary skills to become the leaders of tomorrow. All you need is a desire to learn about hunting heritage, nature, and outdoor sciences.

During the camp, participants will study aquatic vegetation, the importance of wetland ecosystems, waterfowl biology, land and water stewardship, natural resource management, and how to identify waterfowl using all your senses. Cadets learn about conservation advocacy with lessons on teamwork, public speaking and communication, and leadership. There are also activities involving photography, journaling, and painting. Hunting skills, safety, and ethics are also covered. Come join us in our outdoor classroom nested along the Missouri River in Washburn, ND.

We are also looking for adult volunteers interested in mentoring the cadets during the camp. Adult volunteer leaders (Flock Leader), serve as guides for five or six teenagers (13-17 years of age) as they progress through a five-day camp.

ND Waterfowl Brigade2.jpgAs an Adult Leader, you will participate in all the activities the youth participate in, some physically demanding. Physical activity will include team building and leadership exercises, being outdoors throughout the day, walking/marching in summer weather, walking through tall grass, etc.

Becoming an Adult Leader is a competitive process. To be considered, you must complete an application and a background check (link will be emailed). Immediate family members of youth applicants might not be selected as an Adult Leader for the camp. Adult leader applicants are asked to provide two references (no family members, please) as part of the application.
