DU President Rogers Hoyt Jr. called Newbill to break the news.
"It was a pleasure speaking with Betsy over the phone, discussing her high school career and what DU has meant to her and her family,&dquo; said Hoyt. "I could tell within the first 30 seconds that she is an outstanding leader and will represent DU in a positive manner for many years to come.&dquo;
Ducks Unlimited is awarding 60 other scholarships to deserving high school seniors from across the country; 10 Conservation Scholarships of $1,000 and 50 Varsity Scholarships of $500.
This year&squo;s applications were reviewed by a volunteer selection committee appointed by the DU&squo;s Advisory Senior Vice President to the National Youth Education Committee, Dr. Ronal Roberson.
"I am very proud of Betsy and the entire class of 2020 DU scholarship recipients,&dquo; said Roberson. "This marks the third year that DU has awarded scholarships to high school seniors who are members and/or volunteers of the organization. It has truly been an honor for me to be a part of this process. I absolutely love talking to these young leaders.&dquo;
