PORTLAND, Maine - June 26, 2020 - James Konkel, of Scarborough, Maine, was recently elected to Ducks Unlimited's national board of directors.

"Ducks Unlimited's leadership assures our organization conserves, restores and manages wetlands and associated habitats for North America's waterfowl," said DU Board Chairman Rogers Hoyt. "Our board members volunteer their time and resources because they are passionate about conservation. I welcome each new board member and look forward to working with them for years to come."

Jim began his DU volunteer service in 1983 in Findlay, Ohio. He moved to Maine in 1987 and continued his service. His distinguished volunteer career includes many positions including State Chairman for Maine, National Shoot Committee Chairman and serving on the DU Canada Board and the DU Board as an at-large member. Jim also serves as a member of Wetlands America Trust, the land trust of Ducks Unlimited. Jim's nearly 40-year volunteer commitment shows his strong leadership ability and his passion for wetlands and waterfowl conservation.

Jim and his wife Sue reside in Scarborough, Maine, on the Atlantic coast.

"The conservation of our wetlands is important to the quality of life for wildlife and people. Everything we do impacts the smallest invertebrates all the way up to humans," Konkel said. "Our volunteers and staff get this done. It's possible because of their passion, their drive and their willingness to step up to the mission."

For the first time in DU history, board member elections were conducted virtually due to the current COVID-19 pandemic. Officers and new members will be recognized during DU's annual convention in September.
