Ducks Unlimited knows that Swan Creek Wildlife Management Area (WMA), just outside Decatur, is an important area for waterfowl. Wetlands on the WMA also serve as important flood control protections, provide public recreational opportunities, and help to provide groundwater recharge. We have partnered with the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (AL DCNR), investing over $300,000 to enhance more than 1,200 acres of wetland habitat on the WMA.

We are aware that the current feasibility study being conducted is looking at several options to determine the best location for a new bridge.  One option would bring it through Swan Creek and potentially impact waterfowl management.  DU recently met with AL DCNR staff to discuss potential impacts. The feasibility study is ongoing, and at this time, a decision has not been made about the location of the new bridge. DU will continue to monitor the situation, stay engaged and support our wildlife agency partners as the study moves forward.
