Once again, Colorado Ducks Unlimited has been approved to auction a highly coveted Shiras moose license, approved by the Colorado Legislature and administered by Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW). Experienced moose hunters in the continental United States will attest that Colorado is the place for finding a record Shiras bull, as Colorado’s moose herd has remained strong, healthy and prolific, resulting in new moose management units being added each year.
This license allows the holder to hunt from the start of the archery moose season in early September including a muzzleloader season in mid-September; and finally the moose rifle season which runs from Oct 1st thru the 14th, however the holder of this special license gets to hunt until the end of the year, Dec 31, 2026, if the license hasn’t been filled.
The 2026 auction moose tag will be auctioned on May 7, 2026, during the live auction at the annual Highlands Ranch DU banquet being held at 2 Penguins Tap & Grill, 13065 E. Briarwood Ave. Centennial, CO. Bidders unable to attend in person may request participation by phone. To be a part of this unique auction, or for further information, contact former DU staff member and now volunteer Kirk Davidson at 303-927-1949 or kdavidsonco@outlook.com.
