Day of Sport at Tamarack Preserve, Millbrook, NY
Tamarack Preserve opened in 1992 as a non proprietary hunting and fishing membership club. The Club leases lands primarily from the Bontecou family for members to pursue upland birds, trout, bass, ducks, deer, turkey and geese. One of the primary reasons for the forming of Tamarack was to provide a vehicle to allow the lands to remain undeveloped and further the agrarian and sporting use of the property. The lands have been farmed, hunted and fished for nearly 80 years.
The day of sport begins with a clays warm-up on the five stand. For the walkup hunt, you will be provided with a guide and dog. Afterwards, enjoy lunch in the clubhouse.

Private Tour and Tasting at the Taconic Distillery, Stanfordville, NY
When Lewis & Clark set out on their expedition in 1804, they knew a thing or two about how to read the land, the water and the skies along the way. Their survival, although never guaranteed, was backed by pure brawn and bravery. Well-honed skills of hunting and fishing, passed down through generations, provided the sustenance to persevere. Loyalty provided the drive to succeed.
Today, we honor that genuine American spirit by toasting our Dutchess Private Reserve high to the sky, and with every drop, we say thank you to those who forged the way through uncharted rivers, vast prairies and seemingly impassable mountains. It is thanks to them that we lead the life we lead today: one that freely celebrates our country's history, its ancestors and the wilderness they discovered on behalf of an entire nation.

Tour the former South Dover Marble Company Quarry, Wingdale, NY with Ian Holback, owner of Harlem Valley Sand & Gravel, Wassaic, NY
Every headstone marking the grave of a Civil War Veteran in Arlington Cemetery came from this famous marble quarry in Wingdale, NY. The stone used to build the House of Representatives and the Washington Square Monument was also quarried here. The South Dover Marble Company opened in the early 1800's and operated until 1935. Mining continued through 1977 when Ian bought and took on the reclamation of this 100-acre site. "I liked the challenge of turning it into a beautiful piece of property. I hauled in thousands of yards of topsoil and did a tremendous amount of site work to turn an abandoned mine back into agriculture. It is now a working farm. That is my hobby and my passion."
Looking through photographs documenting the reclamation process, you will marvel at what see before you, and what you don't. On the lowest part of the site, the sky above the former quarry is now reflected in a ten-acre lake. South Dover Marble Company, Prospectus, 1864
