Iowas Natural Resources and Outdoor Recreation Trust Fund would provide more than $150 million a year to improve our wetlands and natural habitats. But legislators need to hear from their Iowan constituents. We need your help.

Talk to your legislator and tell them to Fund the Trust. Heres how:

Step 1) Find your legislator

Use this site to find your state legislative representative.

Step 2) Prepare what to say.

Its easy - using any of the following in your own words

  • Iowa sportsmen and women lack access to quality hunting and fishing opportunities. Our children and grandchildren will have even fewer opportunities if we do not take action, because less than 10% of Iowas original wetlands remain.
  • The Trust Fund will make adequate funds available to save Iowas precious topsoil from washing into waterways through erosion, ensuring the richness of our land is preserved for future generations of producers.
  • Over the last two decades, Iowa has lost more than 1.6 million acres of habitat suitable for pheasants and other small game. The Trust Fund would help reverse that.
  • The Trust Fund would help tourism, which generates more than $7.6 billion in Iowa, employs 64,600 people and generates $328 million in state taxes.

Step 3) Know how to talk to your legislative office.

You probably wont talk to your actual representative, but instead a staff member. Tell the person who answers the phone that youd like to tell your legislator your views on funding the Natural Resources and Outdoor Recreation Trust Fund.

Remember to be yourself: Focus on how you use and enjoy natural resources, and provide stories about how hunting and fishing has been a special part of your own family history.

Step 4) Post about it

After you call your legislators office, share your experience on social media. Telling others the process was easy and stress-free will encourage others to join. Together, we can do this!
