A drier Old-Fashioned built entirely on Bird Dog. Select Reserve Bourbon carries the backbone, and Blackberry Whiskey replaces the sugar. Built for the tailgate, the lodge, and gatherings.

INGREDIENTS

  • 1.5 fluid ounces Bird Dog Select Reserve Kentucky Straight Bourbon
  • 0.8 fluid ounces Bird Dog Blackberry Whiskey
  • 2 Angostura bitters (dashes)
  • 1 Orange bitters (dash)
  • 1 Orange peel, wide swath
  • 1 Fresh blackberry (garnish)
  • 1 Large ice cube

STEPS

1. Build in the glass: Add 1.5 fluid ounces Bird Dog Select Reserve Kentucky Straight Bourbon, 0.8 fluid ounces Bird Dog Blackberry Whiskey, 2 Angostura bitters (dashes), and 1 Orange bitters (dash) directly to a rocks glass. No syrup, no muddling. The Blackberry Whiskey is the sweetener.

2. Add ice and stir: Drop in 1 Large ice cube and stir 20 to 25 rotations until well chilled and slightly diluted.

3. Express and garnish: Express 1 Orange peel, wide swath over the surface, rub it on the rim, and drop it in. Spear 1 Fresh blackberry (garnish) and rest it on the cube.

NOTES

Drier version: pull Blackberry back to 0.5 oz and bump Select Reserve to 2 oz. Batch for a crowd: 3 parts Select Reserve to 1.5 parts Blackberry plus bitters, bottled ahead, poured over ice on site. Skip the fresh blackberry at volume and let the orange peel carry the garnish.
