Purpose: To restore and create shallow emergent wetlands in the Lower Rio Grande Valley for migratory and wintering ducks, nesting whistling ducks, and an array of shorebirds, wading birds, and songbirds. This project installed levees, water control structures, and an irrigation system for management of water levels. A diverse and productive suite of wetland habitats is now being provided through seasonal water level manipulation on the State Park.
