Purpose: To restore 37 acres of bottomland hardwoods on Hurricane Lake WMA through tree planting efforts. The project involves reforestation of an abandoned soybean field that is subject to flooding from the White River. The site was partially reforested with honey locust and willow through natural regeneration; the remaining tract was planted with several oak species that will add diversity and food resources for wildlife species. The project is within the Hurricane Lake Wildlife Management Area and is managed by the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission to maintain high quality wetland habitat for waterfowl.
