Ducks Unlimited is in the process of completing work on the Bayou L'Ours Terracing Project in Lafourche Parish, Louisiana. This project will enhance 220 acres of degraded coastal marsh through the construction of 24,000 linear feet of marsh terraces. These terraces will help promote the growth of important submerged aquatic vegetation and slow further wind and wave erosion of Gulf Coast wetlands, which continue to be lost at an alarming rate. In fact, Lafourche Parish suffers some of the greatest rates of coastal wetland loss in the country. Funding for this project is being used to leverage a North American Wetlands Conservation Act grant to underwrite restoration work in other parts of the parish as well as in the adjacent Terrebonne Basin.
