DUCKS UNLIMITED, INC. -- the leader in wetlands conservation -- has exciting opportunities for students or recent graduates with GIS, remote sensing, and natural resources expertise. DU has been using advanced GIS and remote sensing technologies since the mid-1980s to manage the complex issues in wetland and waterfowl management, land use planning and environmental conservation. The position is based in our Western Regional Office in Sacramento, California, and requires hands-on GIS experience with ESRI products.
Candidate will assist with GIS and Remote Sensing projects using a variety of datasets throughout the western United States and Canada. Responsibilities will include: collecting and manipulating a variety of large datasets; designing cartographic products in support of conservation planning; digitizing new datasets and assembling metadata; remote sensing with ECognition; and editing map services and web mapping applications. Additional responsibilities may include: GIS/IT hardware and software maintenance and assisting on basic and advanced GIS and remote sensing analysis and modeling.
The qualified applicant will be a self-motivated, conscientious individual who can work independently, as well as communicate closely with Ducks Unlimited biologists and engineers. We are looking for a person with a broad background in natural resources and GIS experience in ArcGIS (Arcmap & ArcServer), RDBMS, Windows 7 and 2003 Server operating systems. Relocation expenses are not provided. Interns receive a $1,800 monthly stipend for full time work. Position has a term of up to 12 months.
