Huron, S.D. - Ducks Unlimited received two grants to help keep water in area rivers and creeks clear of erosion by restoring grassland and wetland habitat on 136 acres in Beadle County. These restorations will be along the James River.

The James River Water Development District board of directors granted $8,000 to DU to restore 80 acres of marginal cropland into perennial grassland species. This land is adjacent to a tributary of the James River and is susceptible to severe erosion into the stream that flows into the James River.

The directors also granted $10,750 to DU to restore and conserve grassland and wetland habitat, creating a buffer for Pearl Creek. The project will restore 16 acres of wetlands and 40 acres of grasslands.
