MEMPHIS, Tennessee - April 25, 2018 - Ducks Unlimited board member and volunteer Doug Federighi, of Lafayette, Calif., died today of natural causes.

Federighi's DU career started in the early 1990s and he served as Senior Vice President for Conservation Programs and Chairman of the Conservation Programs Committee from 2015-17. He was an ad-hoc member of the Public Policy Committee, a member of the Finance Committee and a long-standing member of Ducks Unlimited Canada's Board of Directors.

"Doug was a tremendous conservationist and a strong advocate for Ducks Unlimited," said DU Chairman Paul Bonderson Jr. "Along with his service to DU, Doug was also a great friend to me and many others. We spent quite a bit of time in a duck blind together and I will forever cherish those memories. He will be missed."

Born in Oakland, Calif., in 1942, Doug graduated from Stanford University with a degree in business and political science in 1963.

Doug first started waterfowling in the mid-1960s in California's Suisun Marsh. His waterfowl interests moved to the Grasslands when he joined Gustine Land and Cattle Company in 1979, serving as its grounds chairman, vice president and board member. Doug purchased two other waterfowl properties in the East Grasslands where he advocated for quality water and habitat management on private and federal wetlands. He was a life member and served many years on the Executive and Regulations committees for the California Waterfowl Association.

Doug became a member of the Grassland Water District Board of Directors in 1998, culminating his years of participation in promoting habitat solutions and conservation issues affecting his beloved Grasslands. To that end, he fought encroachment from urban expansion and the theft of critical water rights.
