Kids enjoyed a day learning about ducks and duck hunting

JAMESTOWN, N.D. – Sept. 24, 2015 – Ducks Unlimited and Pheasants Forever (PF) partnered to host a free youth waterfowl hunting clinic at the North Dakota Game and Fish Jamestown District Office. Volunteers helped kids learn the skills to enjoy waterfowl hunting safely.

The kids and their parents learned the basics of identifying waterfowl and regulations for the 2015/2016 waterfowl hunting season in a presentation by Jennifer Kross, DU communications specialist. They were also given the rundown on duck hunting gear and how to set up decoy spreads by volunteer Aaron Pearse. Next PF volunteers Rachel Bush gave duck calling instruction and Curt Francis showed the basics of dog handling and retriever training.

Attendees were given a presentation on shotgun safety in the blind by Conservation Officer Dave Azure then they were able to practice shooting at the Buffalo City Gun Club range.

"We all want to help educate young hunters and help them enjoy hunting," said Kross. "We are teaching them the things we know so they don't have to make the same mistakes we did when we started out hunting."

This event was sponsored by James Valley Pheasants Forever, Ducks Unlimited, North Dakota Game and Fish Department, Buffalo City Gun Club, Stutsman County Wildlife Federation and the National Shooting Sports Foundation Project ChildSafe.
