Follow the Ducks this Season
Ducks Unlimited is helping answer the all-important question on the minds of waterfowl hunters this time of year:
Where are the ducks?
In September, DU laun ched the all new waterfowl migration map. This interactive map allows Web site visitors to report on waterfowl concentrations in their area. It also allows users to submit hunting reports based on their experiences in the field.
This week, DU launched the Hunting Reports Map. This map is similar to the migration map, but features reports submitted exclusively by Avery Outdoor Pro-staffers. Each week, the pro-staffers will provide updates on a variety of topics, such as hunting success, weather and water conditions, migration patterns and other valuable information hunters need to know. Special thanks to Avery Outdoors for providing this important resource to DU supporters.
We hope these maps will make your preparations easier and your next trip to the blind more successful.

Waterfowl ID |
Shortcuts to Duck ID

Hunters must observe several things when trying to identify ducks. Differences in size, shape, plumage patterns, colors, wingbeat, flocking behavior, voice and habitat all help separate one species from another.
Learn more about these differences and increase your Waterfowl IQ for your next trip to the field.

Ducks Unlimited staff meets with Senior Senate Agriculture Committee staff to discuss Farm Bill
Several DU staff sat down with the Chairman of the Senate Agriculture Committee Tom Harkin (Iowa) recently to discuss the current state of the farm bill in the U.S. Senate. The news that came out of the meeting was mixed for conservation. The latest draft of the bill showed slight gains for conservation, but still left a hole of more than $5.5 billion for the bill.

Hunt & Home™ Wild Game Recipe |
Manitoba Potatoes
Supporters who meet Ducks Unlimited for the first time at a Hunt & Home party want to do two things: join DU and try the DU Manitoba Wild Game Seasoning.
The DU membership and their interest in volunteering are the primary goal of the Hunt & Home parties. But the Manitoba Wild Game seasoning is the “wow” factor! This seasoning works with everything; on your game, steaks, chops, poultry or fish. And it transforms an everyday potato into something to talk about at the table!
For more details about how to get involved with Hunt & Home Parties go to www.ducks.org/huntandhome.

Manitoba Potatoes
These are so easy you will want to serve at all your meals. Try them at your hunting camp, dinner parties, cookouts or simple, quick side dish for the kids.
Serves 2-4
• 2 tablespoons of oil
• 1 tablespoon of DU Manitoba Wild Game Seasoning
• 4 to 6 small red potatoes, sliced into medallions
Mix oil and seasoning in large bowl or plastic bag. Add potatoes and coat well. Place the potatoes flat on a cookie sheet, try lining the pan with aluminum foil for easy clean up. Broil about 6-7 minutes, until browned. For crispier potatoes, brown the other side for another 6-7 minutes.
