Ducks Unlimited Launches Podcast Program

The world of waterfowl is now online and on demand, thanks to Ducks Unlimited’s new downloadable podcast. The hour-long podcasts feature celebrity interviews, hunting tips, conservation segments and outdoors-related product reviews.

“Podcasting is quickly becoming a major source for entertainment and news in today’s society,” said David Schuessler, DU’s director of event & volunteer promotion. “We created a show that is both entertaining and educational, much like our DU TV show.”

Farm Bill Update

We're making progress, but still need your help!

Several DU staff sat down with the Chairman of the Senate Agriculture Committee Tom Harkin (Iowa) recently to discuss the current state of the farm bill in the U.S. Senate. The news that came out of the meeting was mixed for conservation. The latest draft of the bill showed slight gains for conservation, but still left a hole of more than $5.5 billion for the bill.

There are still many challenges that face conservation on the Senate floor. Rumors persist of possible amendments that would drastically limit conservation payments, encouraging landowners to not take advantage of them. Other possible amendments include weakening Sodsaver and preventing other conservation programs from being utilized to their full potential.

Sweet Sesame Duck or Goose Jerky

Sweet Sesame Duck or Goose Jerky

* 1 ½ cups DU Red Plum Toasted Sesame Sauce

* 2 tablespoons DU Manitoba Wild Game Seasoning

* ½ cup soy sauce

* Plastic Wrap

* Baking rack

* Small Foil Ball (aluminum foil formed to 3 inch ball)

* Skinless goose or Duck breasts

Slice goose breasts to desired strips width and length. Mix together DU Red Plum Toasted Sesame Sauce and soy sauce. Add sliced duck to bowl. Cover and refrigerate for 6 - 12 hours. Remove cover, pat dry and arrange on baking rack. Sprinkle DU Manitoba Wild Game Seasoning over meat (be sure to have paper towel underneath to catch excess, then throw away.) Place in 175 degree preheated oven, crack oven door open by placing small foil ball in door. Meat will take 5 - 7 hours to dry completely. Refrigerate for seven to 10 days, or freeze in airtight, vacuum sealed container for up to one year.
