DU supporters help strengthen conservation in 2007 farm bill

House passes legislation, Senate is next step

The U.S. House of Representatives last week passed the House Agriculture Committee’s version of the 2007 farm bill (H.R. 2419). Ducks Unlimited supported the bill throughout its debate and passage. The strong voices of DU supporters for conservation were certainly heard during the crafting of the bill.

Look for Ducks Unlimited in USA Today

As part of its 25th anniversary, USA Today is recognizing Ducks Unlimited August 24-30 as one of the top 25 causes in the United States. Look for DU on the front page of the August 24th paper and in ads on that date and a couple of days later.

To commemorate this recognition, DU partner Bank of America will match online donations* to DU during that period.

Now, that’s good news for wildlife habitat.

* Donations made between August 24 and September 15 will be matched dollar for dollar up to an aggregate of $50,000.

Know Your Ducks

So, you think your waterfowl IQ is pretty sharp? See if you can identify the name of the waterfowl species with following traits:

• I have a reddish head and upper neck with a black lower neck, foreback, and breast (drake).
  
  
• My call resembles the meow of a cat (drake).
  
  
• I breed in the northern prairies of the U.S. and Canada and intermountain marshes of the west.
  
  
• As diving ducks go, I am the most common breeder in the United States.
  
  
• Approximately 80% of the this species winters in the Laguna Madre of Texas and Mexico.I am a medium-sized dabbling duck, but my size doesn't slow me down. I'm a swift flyer and often twist and turn like a teal.
