Ducks Unlimited recognized Flint Hills Resources for reaching the $1 million milestone in giving to the organization nationwide. Regionally, Flint Hills Resources, Corpus Christi, Texas, has supported Ducks Unlimited’s Gulf Coast Initiative since 2015. Over the last several years, the refinery has steadily increased its support for coastal restoration efforts along the Texas coast. In total, they have contributed $41,500 and pledged another $25,000 in 2019.

Ducks Unlimited’s Texas projects focus on providing year-round benefits to migratory waterfowl and many other species. For example, a local project is enhancing the Guadalupe Delta Wildlife Management Area by installing a solar well to provide water for nearby shallow wetland areas. The well is a low-flow system that will provide water to small wetlands important for mottled ducks during pairing, nesting, brood rearing and molting phases that occur during spring and summer months.

The Gulf Coast Initiative also supported the Lake Street Weir on the Lower Neches WMA’s Old River Unit. The project replaced a failing plug to reduce negative effects of saltwater intrusion.

“We are proud of our partnership with Ducks Unlimited,” said Brook Vickery, vice president and manufacturing manager for Flint Hills Resources Corpus Christi Refineries. “Here in the Coastal Bend Region life revolves around outdoor activities including hunting, fishing, boating and other recreational activities. That’s why we support Ducks Unlimited’ efforts to help secure more than 1,500 acres of future waterfowl habitat in the Lone Star State.”

Flint Hills Resources’ contribution to Ducks Unlimited totals nearly $1.3 million nationwide. For more than 30 years, the Flint Hills Resources Pine Bend refinery in Rosemount, Minnesota has partnered with Ducks Unlimited to conserve more than 250,000 acres across North America.
