TEXAS CITY, TX September 21, 2020 - Ducks Unlimited (DU) and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Services (USFWS) are working together to increase accessibility of waterfowl hunting for disabled individuals on Brazoria National Wildlife Refuge (NWR).

The project will include construction of an Americans with Disabilities Act compliant blind on the refuge, and was made possible through generous support from the USFWS and Matt and Debbie Doyle.

As lifelong Texans, Debbie and I are committed to improving the quality of life for all citizens, stated Matt Doyle. Opening up areas and making them accessible to all hunters is an important part of that commitment.

Brazoria NWR is a 44,414-acre wildlife conservation area bordered by Christmas Bay and the Intracoastal Waterway. The blind is located on the Alligator Marsh Public Waterfowl Hunting Area and available only to hunters with disabilities.

Having a place to hunt that is easily accessible is important to people of all abilities, said Christopher Tipper Esponge, co-owner of E& Construction Group, project contractor. As a fellow hunter, it was important to me that others would be able to enjoy the sport I love so much.

Esponge, a disabled veteran, looks to serve others whenever and wherever he can. While his company primarily works on federal and military projects, he was very excited to get the opportunity to work with Ducks Unlimited on the project.

The project was completed in early September in preparation for the upcoming waterfowl season.
