GRAND ISLAND, Neb. – March 7, 20019 - Randy Stutheit, wetland biologist with the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission (NGPC) was named Ducks Unlimited’s Wetland Manager of the Year.
Marilyn Tabor, grants administrator for the Nebraska Environmental Trust, won the 2019 Nebraska Ducks Unlimited Partnership Award.
Stutheit, who has more than 35 years of service with NGPC, works on wetland conservation projects throughout the state. He has overseen wetland restoration projects on more than 40 NGPC wildlife management areas.
“We created the award four years ago to credit wetland managers and stewards in Game and Parks for the thankless work that they do to maintain wetland habitat,” said John Denton, DU’s manager of conservation programs for Nebraska.
NGPC Wetland Program Manager Ted LaGrange said Stutheit restorations can include everything from removing sediment to adding wells and water delivery systems.
“Wetland restoration projects are complex and require someone with plenty of skills and the patience to see the projects through to completion,” LaGrange said. “Randy has these abilities, and his work has greatly benefited Nebraska’s wetlands, including the value they provide to waterfowl.”
Tabor is the second recipient of the DU partner award, which goes to the person in a group whose partnership has benefited DU exceptionally.
“Marilyn and the Nebraska Environmental Trust are crucial partners to Ducks Unlimited’s habitat conservation efforts in Nebraska. When I first began, Marilyn was critical to my keeping this program moving forward,” Denton said. “I had 17 NET grants to administer along with dozens of projects and other federal grants. Without her assistance and efforts above and beyond the call of duty to train me on the NET grant process, we would likely not be the thriving conservation program we are today.”
