1,460 acres finished at Cedar Point NWR

Ducks Unlimited completed a crucial habitat project at Cedar Point National Wildlife Refuge that reconnects 1,460 acres of coastal wetland to Lake Erie

This summer, Ducks Unlimited completed a crucial habitat project at Cedar Point National Wildlife Refuge that reconnects 1,460 acres of coastal wetland to Lake Erie.

The project improves the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service’s ability to manage water levels and vegetation for local and migrating wildlife, and includes a fish ladder to allow native fish to use the coastal wetlands for spawning.

This project was funded by NOAA through the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative.  DU wrote and administered the $700,000 NOAA grant and provided all engineering services including design and construction management.

The project redirected more than 200 acres of offsite agricultural drainage into the wetlands to help impact water quality.
