RIVERTON, Wyo
. – Dec. 18, 2012 – Ducks Unlimited has elected Howard Johnson, Riverton, to serve as an at-large member of the organization’s national
board of directors
.
“I became a volunteer the year after my first event, because I enjoyed the event and was interested in the business of Ducks Unlimited,” Johnson said. “Advancing through various levels of leadership, I have learned what a terrific organization DU is, especially its continental approach to conservation.”
An active volunteer for 34 years with the Riverton chapter, Johnson was
DU Wyoming
state chair for almost four years and became state council chairman in July 2012. During his tenure as chairman, Wyoming DU was recognized as the number two state in the nation. He initiated the Riverton DU sponsor event 17 years ago and helped to start the Riverton ladies’ event, the only such event in Wyoming. He continues to chair the sponsor event and volunteer for the ladies’ event, which has grown steadily.
Johnson will represent Region 2 on the board, covering the Great Plains states. As a senior volunteer, he will oversee DU volunteers in Wyoming and
South Dakota
.
Johnson has been a lifetime outdoor recreationist and conservationist. “The
mission and vision
of Ducks Unlimited fit exactly what I believe in life,” he said. DU’s mission is to conserve, restore and manage wetlands and associated habitats for North America's waterfowl. These habitats also benefit other wildlife and people.
Johnson is also the chairman of the board of
Inberg-Miller Engineers
, a civil engineering and surveying firm, which is headquartered in Riverton where he lives with his family.
Ducks Unlimited is the world’s largest nonprofit organization dedicated to conserving North America's continually disappearing waterfowl habitats. Established in 1937, DU is celebrating its 75th anniversary this year, with special events, projects and promotions across the continent. Ducks Unlimited has conserved more than 12 million acres thanks to contributions from more than a million supporters across the continent. Guided by science and dedicated to program efficiency, DU works toward the vision of wetlands sufficient to fill the skies with waterfowl today, tomorrow and forever.
