Project designs to restore approximately 40 acres of emergent wetland in St. Croix County have been finalized. Restoration work, which created a complex of small wetland basins and 110 acres of adjacent native tallgrass prairie, was completed in fall 2003. This project provides valuable waterfowl breeding habitat while improving the water quality of Squaw Lake. The project is a cooperative effort among the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service, Natural Resources Conservation Service, DU, Star Prairie Fish & Game Association, Pheasants Forever, North American Wetlands Conservation Act, Squaw Lake Rehabilitation & Management District, St. Croix Land & Water Conservation District, and the Department of Agriculture, Trade & Consumer Protection.
