You are cordially invited to help prepare wood duck nesting boxes for the 2018 spring hatch. On Saturday, 24 February, the Pentagon Chapter of Ducks Unlimited will host our 13th Annual Green Wing Day at Mason Neck State Park and National Wildlife Refuge. We will begin the day at 9:00 AM. “Green Wings” are Ducks Unlimited’s youngest members ranging up to 17 years old, but we readily invite adults to help, too. This is a great opportunity to work towards “community service points” while enjoying a day outdoors doing something that is out of the ordinary.
Throughout the years our Green Wings built and continue to maintain almost 30 wood duck nesting boxes on lands owned by the Mason Neck State Park, the National Wildlife Refuge, and the Bureau of Land Management between Woodbridge and Fort Belvoir. We invite you to join us as we prepare nesting boxes for this year’s nesting season. We will replace bedding, perform minor maintenance, and get a count on how many boxes were used last year. You can expect to see ducks, geese, eagles, and maybe some deer.
