The Star and Tribune recently highlighted a Ducks Unlimited project by having an article about the drawdown of Lake Christina. DU completed an outlet this past spring that allows the lake to be pumped down. in July, the Minnesota DNR started the pumps and they have been pumping since then. The dry weather has allowed the lake to be drawn down to 2.5 feet below the normal water level and pumping will continue until the lake is down another half a foot. This will allow the lake to winterkill and reduce the rough fish that contribute to poor water quality. For this to happen Jon Schneider, DU's Minnesota Manager of Conservation Programs, says to "pray for a normal or harsh winter here so we get the fish winterkill on Christina that is expected and predicted."
