2012 Leadership Retreat Recap
Fundraising Efforts Year to date and Goals:
Barry reported that we had 3 new startup Chapters. They were Ogden, Ouray and Salt Lake. Year to date Utah has raised $70,235 in Net Net income. This compares to the total of $134,000 for the entire 2011 year. The goal for Utah is $180,000. Barry’s personal goal is $200,000.
Awards Program:
Joe reported that a new awards program was adopted in 2011, where the chapters compete against their own numbers. Last year those receiving awards were: Northern Mallards with a 18.6% increase in Dollars, Bountiful with a 31% increase in Dollars, Gander Handlers with a 27.1% increase in Dollars, Sevier River Valley with an 18.7% increase in Dollars, Urban Skies with a 34.1% increase in Dollars, Tooele with a 46.3% increase in Dollars and the Best Efficiency in the State of 55.5%, South Valley was the Top Net Net Chapter with $22,258, and Bountiful was the Most Improved Efficiency Chapter with a 14.8% improvement. These awards were handed out at the Leadership Workshop this summer, and Joe has been taking them to the Chapters.
Browning Gun Program:
This fall Joe, Barry and Craig visited with Blake Mecham and established a statewide gun raffle program. Each chapter will be given a Browning BPS with a Utah Specific Medallion in the stock to be raffled at their banquet. The purchaser of the ticket will also be given a chance to win a Browning Grande Lighting with the 75th Anniversary logo on one side of the receiver and a Utah Specific Logo on the other side. This gun will be drawn at the end of the year. Each chapter will be given 100 tickets a t $20 per ticket. The chapter cost will be $600, with the chapter netting $1400. Tickets are in the process of being printed.
State Convention:
The State Convention dates will be March 23th, 24th and 25th. The site will be back in Mesquite NV. Joe Trujillo has volunteered to be the chairman. Several of the leaders present indicated that they will also help out. Joe indicated that he will be calling a committee meeting when he gets back from his travels.
Browning Workshop:
It was agreed upon that Barry should contact Browning and see if we are able to hold a workshop there. The date that was suggested was July 14th or the 28th. Barry will follow up on this.
Tradeshows:
It was agreed on that Utah Ducks Unlimited should attend the ISE show to be held March 15th – 18th. Barry has been directed to secure a booth for it. Volunteers will be needed to staff the booth. It was suggested that Hats be sold, Raffle tickets on a gun (Browning Gun for the State Convention), memberships sold and Greenwing Items. Other tradeshows will be evaluated for the remainder of the year.
DWR State Hunt Permits:
Joe reported that Utah DU has secured 3 permits for the 2012 season. They are: Buck Deer, West Desert Vernon, Turkey Rio Northern Unit and Bull Elk West Desert Deep Creek. After group discussion it was decided to give the Turkey Rio tag to Cache Valley, the Buck Deer tag to Urban Skies and the Bull Elk to the State Convention. This program has been restored after not having it for a year.
New Events:
Barry reported on the three new events that have taken place so far, Ogden, Ouray and Salt Lake. New events that are planned are the State Convention, a Tooele Waterfowl Party, and a Saratoga Springs Waterfowl Party. Other prospects are a banquet in Price and one in St. George. In addition to the above Marty Price has confirmed that he will be chairing a Fishing Derby in Flaming Gorge June 22nd, 23rd and 24th. There will be awards for the top three fish in Lake Trout, Salmon, Rainbow and Bass. Marty has been working with the people in Manila to secure the Boat Facility and Headquarters locations. He also reported to have sponsorships from Sportsman, Pepsi, Discount Tire and Milwaukee Tools. This event could be one of the biggest in the state.
State Council Meetings:
Rob Jensen reported that this meeting will constitute a State Council meeting with another one planned for the morning of March 25 at the State Convention.
Discussion of State Newsletter:
It was agreed upon to send out a recap on the discussion at the Browning Workshop and the State Retreat. Due to the lack of a volunteer to do the Newsletters, it was suggested that this information would work.
