Great Salt Lake NAWCA, Phase II - Salt Creek Waterfowl Management Area Restoration Project

Salt Creek Waterfowl Management Area
Ducks Unlimited, Inc., together with the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources (DWR) secured North American Wetland Conservation Act funds to restore degraded wetlands on the Salt Creek Waterfowl Management Area (WMA).   DU Conservation Staff, with assistance from DWR, worked for over two years on this project with completion in the winter of 2002.   By improving and adding infrastructure, DU has increased water management capabilities, habitat diversity, and overall wetland acreage on the Salt Creek WMA. The project came on-line in the spring of 2003 and the once degraded area began its new life as an 800-acre emergent wetland.   Although drought conditions existed throughout 2003, DWR had enough water to produce habitat for thousands of fall migrating ducks, geese, and swans.

This project provides year-round benefits to thousands of waterfowl and other wildlife, as well as additional outdoor recreation and hunting opportunities, creating a welcome addition to Utah's huntable wetlands resource.
