In Honor of Charles E Pahl

Dad was raised in Arcadia, Wisconsin where he attended school. As a young man, he enlisted in the armed forces where he proudly served in the United States Navy during World War II. Dad thoroughly loved the outdoors.  Nothing gave him greater pleasure than bird hunting in South Dakota. He loved it so much; that they made there home there. He also enjoyed fishing and playing golf. On a cool fall morning he could be found in a goose pit or crawling for duck on a prairrie pot hole. Dad loved the outdoors and all it had to offer. Many of his years were spent hunting in Northeastern South Dakota with its numerous lake, sloughs, and pot holes. His main love was the Canadian Honker and as migrations changed he and his hunting friends followed that migration to the Missouri River of South Dakota.
Dad also had a love of fishing the lakes of NE South Dakota and the Missouri River, much of the time you could find the love of his life, his wife Joy with him in the boat. Many times on those pheasant openers you would find her carrying her Browning Sweet Sixteen Shotgun hunting with Dad.
As time progressed the hunt was not as important as getting up early and observing the geese as they came of the river to feed or to just scout those geese and see what they were hungry for.
My Father instilled in me the same love of the outdoors and the birds and animals that inhabit it. I have now passed that on to my children, his grandchildren. As our family hunts and enjoys the outdoors we will always remember the legacy that Dad left us.

Greg and all -- God bless your patriarch, Chuck and thank you for sharing him with our family so generously. I recall fondly our time together, at work and at play in Watertown. We visited Chuck several times recently and always enjoyed his hearty laugh and warmth, even when he wasn't really sure who we were. Take care, Greg. Thanks for this wonderful tribute to the pastime he loved so well.
