Andy, a third generation San Franciscan and fourth generation Californian, passed peacefully in his sleep, February 15, 2014, just shy of his 80th birthday. Born to Daniel and Helen Stone, Andy and his twin brother, Jim, enjoyed regular trips to the High Sierras in their youth. Dan instilled in them a lifelong love of the outdoors where they became accomplished fly-fishermen and duck hunters. Andy took pride in backpacking the John Muir trail and riding horseback to the most remote streams. He hunted until last year and enjoyed the services of several Labradors at his side. Andy was thrilled to be able to share his hunting and fishing prowess with his grandsons.
The thrill of pursuit, whether for a fish or a bird, extended to all areas of his life, and the joy he expressed upon achieving both large and small goals was contagious to all around him. People loved Andy and they naturally gravitated to him. Mischievous to the day he died, a lover of limericks, an accomplished joke and story teller, Andy made new friends in each endeavor.
Andy is survived by the love of his life, Anita, their three daughters and six grandsons. Andy is also survived by his brother Dan and his brother Jim's two children. Andy supported the conservation efforts of Ducks Unlimited and the family welcomes contributions made in his memory.
