Friends and family of Ducks Unlimited volunteer Stan Huner gathered in Birmingham, Alabama, earlier this year to raise funds for a project in Huner's honor on the waterfowl breeding grounds of the Prairie Pothole Region. Nearly 90 people from as far north as Alberta, Canada, came together and raised more than $143,000 for DU's Preserve Our Prairies Initiative. The event was Alabama's fifth such tribute in as many years.

Huner, who joined his local DU committee in 1974, has served in several capacities on the organization's national board of directors. He and his wife, Jane, have been active DU Major Sponsors for more than 30 years and are currently Heritage Sponsors. They pledged to be Grand Slam Sponsors in Perpetuity at the tribute event.

Alabama's tribute program began in 2010 with an event honoring Thomas Jernigan Sr. The program has raised nearly $600,000 in cash and pledges, making it the most successful single event in Alabama DU history.
