MEMPHIS, TN, March 13, 2008 – For the second time in three years, and the third time in history, North Carolina was recognized as Ducks Unlimited’s top state when NCDU State Chairman Lee Warren was awarded the #1 State Chairman Award at the 2008 DU National Leadership Conference that was recently held in Memphis.

Ducks Unlimited’s annual state rankings are based on a host of criteria, including growth in fund-raising dollars over prior year, fiscal efficiency and number of members. North Carolina was also awarded this honor in 2006 and in 1981.
“It’s just a true testament to the hard work of DU volunteers from across our state,” said Warren, a resident of Fayetteville. “DU does so much for North Carolina through our Sound CARE habitat conservation program and I think this award is proof that the people of North Carolina will give back to those dedicated to help them”.
With more than a million supporters, Ducks Unlimited is the world’s largest and most effective wetland and waterfowl conservation organization with more than 12 million acres conserved. The United States alone has lost more than half of its original wetlands - nature’s most productive ecosystem - and continues to lose more than 80,000 wetland acres each year.
