SOUTHAVEN, Miss. – Feb. 3, 2009 – The Desoto County, Miss., DU chapter called their way into the Guinness Book of World Records on Saturday, Jan. 31, at the Desoto Civic Center during the Mississippi RiverKings hockey game. The chapter contacted Guinness last year about the most duck calls blown at one time. There had never been a record set, so they set out to establish one with more than 3,500 callers calling for three minutes.
Leading the charge at the RiverKings game was calling legend, Buck Gardner, who volunteered his time to start the calling over the Civic Center's loudspeaker. Knight and Hale Game Calls supplied the chapter with 3,000 calls, which were passed out to everyone who walked through the doors.

"It was a steady roar of duck calls," said Mike Crumb, a Desoto County DU chapter member who organized the event. "This was a joint effort between DU, the Mississippi RiverKings, Knight and Hale Game Calls and A Safe and Lock. It was awesome."
The chapter held a silent auction and DU volunteers walked through the crowd to make sure everyone knew when to call. The footage from the event has been sent to the Guinness Book of World Records for review and final determination if a record has been set.
"This is something that will establish DU's name with a lot of folks," Crumb explained. "Along with helping the RiverKings, it was a great event and all we have to do next year is break our own record."
