The U.S. Department of Agriculture has opened a general enrollment period for the Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) for the first time in two years in South Dakota. CRP provides landowners with annual rental payments for problem areas and marginal cropland by improving soil health and wildlife habitat through native grass plantings.  Landowners have until February 26 to apply to enroll land in CRP.

Ducks Unlimited has conservation program biologists in the state who can help landowners decide whether CRP works for their operation, as well as help them navigate the application process. The biologists can also work with them to evaluate other available conservation programs.
For more information on CRP and other conservation programs in South Dakota, please contact Dan Limmer at 605-783-3642, ext.3, dlimmer@ducks.org or Josh Kiesow at 605-226-3360, ext.130, jkiesow@ducks.org.
