COLUMBIA, S.C. – Feb. 8, 2012 – South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley proclaimed Jan. 29, 2012, as Ducks Unlimited 75th Anniversary Day throughout the Palmetto State. She encouraged all South Carolinians to recognize and honor the organization for its outstanding leadership and significant achievement in restoring vital habitats in South Carolina and throughout North America, and for its work as a visionary pioneer in the world of conservation.

Ducks Unlimited, the world's largest nonprofit organization dedicated to conserving North America's disappearing waterfowl habitats, is a grassroots, volunteer-based organization with 650,000 members, including more than 14,700 in South Carolina, who are active conservationists, sportsmen and women and outdoor enthusiasts.

DU has been an effective project leader in preserving and restoring more than 158,000 acres of South Carolina wetland habitats, including those within the Santee and ACE Basin national wildlife refuges; Broad River, Bear Island, Donnelly and Fants Grove wildlife management areas; and extensive work within South Carolina's Lowcountry using science-based policy and sound conservation practices to ensure these habitats will endure for generations to come.

Ducks Unlimited is able to multilaterally deliver its work through a series of partnerships with volunteers, members, private individuals, landowners, state and federal agencies, scientific communities and other entities including, among others, the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources, Department of the Interior, Department of Agriculture, Department of Commerce, Department of Defense and Environmental Protection Agency.

DU has been an integral part of wetlands conservation efforts in South Carolina, unsurpassed in the number and quality of projects undertaken throughout the state that have had a strong, positive effect on the environment and waterfowl and wildlife populations.

Ducks Unlimited is the world's largest nonprofit organization dedicated to conserving North America's continually disappearing waterfowl habitats. Established in 1937, DU is celebrating its 75th anniversary this year, with special events, projects and promotions across the continent. Ducks Unlimited has conserved more than 12 million acres thanks to contributions from more than a million supporters across the continent. Guided by science and dedicated to program efficiency, DU works toward the vision of wetlands sufficient to fill the skies with waterfowl today, tomorrow and forever.
