Poll shows Great Lakes restoration supported by large majority of voters

Great Lakes regional opinion survey finds overwhelming support for continuing the federal government’s efforts to improve the health of the Great Lakes.

S.D. wetland and dam repair will improve water quality, flood control

When full funding is achieved, Ducks Unlimited will be reconstructing a breached dam and restoring four wetland basins along Firesteel Creek in Aurora County. As well as providing critical breeding habitat to waterfowl and other wetland-dependent species, the restored wetlands will provide water for livestock and improve flood control and water quality in the watershed.

Compromise in California

When the Lower Colorado River Authority started making drastic cutbacks in water delivery in Texas, DU board members Rogers Hoyt Jr. and Bill Ansell approached me about strengthening our advocacy for agricultural water, which is important not only to farmers but also to pintails and other wintering waterfowl. In response, DU hired Kirby Brown, a well-known professional biologist from Texas, to be our voice at the table during water-allocation discussions to ensure that farmers and waterfowl are given fair consideration.

Ecosystem Goods and Services

The waterfowl habitats that Ducks Unlimited works to conserve provide many benefits: improved flood control, clean water, recreational opportunities, preserved aesthetic viewsheds and climate regulation. These are often referred to as "ecosystem goods and services."
