Policy: Write a Letter to Your Legislature

Many people hear the word "politics" and get disgusted immediately. But politics makes the world go 'round, or something like that! The fact is, politicians listen to people, because people vote, and just as important, people give money to support politicians.

Policy: State Issues

Public policy issues of concern to DU's Great Lakes/Atlantic Regional Office. For issues concerning states in the Great Lakes and Chesapeake Bay vicinities, please visit our Watershed Policy Issues page.

Policy: Watershed Issues

The Great Lakes is the largest fresh water system in the world with roughly 18 percent of the world's freshwater, that millions drink from everyday. Ducks Unlimited has conserved more than 53,000 acres of waterfowl habitat in the Chesapeake Bay ecosystem. This habitat is vital to the migrating and wintering black ducks, mallards, canvasbacks and Canada geese that rely on the Bay.

Policy: National Issues

On May 26, 2008, the Food, Conservation and Energy Act of 2008, commonly referred to as the Farm Bill, passed into law. Ducks Unlimited scientists estimate that the net effect of the 2008 Farm Bill over the next five years could be the loss of substantial native grassland, which is our most important duck-nesting habitat in the prairie pothole states, due to the reduction in CRP acres and the loss of the Sodsaver provision championed by DU and others.

Mitigation: Landowner Opportunities

DU works with private landowners, local governments, land trusts and other non-profit conservation organizations to develop and establish wetland habitat on their properties. Our expertise and experience in the field of habitat services can assist landowners and managers with identifying valuable mitigation opportunities on their properties.
