The Ducks Unlimited Varsity program began in 2003 at Collierville High School in Collierville, Tennessee. Since then, the number of active Varsity chapters in the United States has increased steadily. In 2015, 38 chapters were responsible for raising more than $300,000 and the forecast for 2016 projects a similar performance.
Today, Varsity chapters are playing an increasingly important role in Ducks Unlimited's conservation mission. DU recognizes that a vibrant and strong high school program is the key to a healthy future for wetlands conservation, and a strong emphasis will continue to be placed on the development of what has been a very successful program.
Varsity volunteers get involved for a variety of reasons including:
- Social functions that build community
- School pride
- DU merchandise
- Conservation education
- College resume building
- Networking and volunteer opportunities
- Leadership development
- National competitions with other DU Varsity chapters across the country
