Ducks Unlimited honors staff member, volunteer leader in northeast Illinois

Rodney Schlafer named regional director of the year

CHICAGO – Sept. 3, 2013 – Ducks Unlimited recently awarded Regional Director Rodney Schlafer a 2012-13 Regional Director of the Year award for his outstanding efforts as a staff member in Region 5, an area that encompasses Illinois, Missouri, Iowa, Indiana and Kentucky.

“We had a great fundraising year,” Schlafer said. “The volunteers stepped up to celebrate DU’s 75th anniversary and made it a year to remember.”

Schlafer covers northeast Illinois and works with volunteer committees in this area hosting fundraising events for the 76-year-old wetlands conservation organization. The events in Schlafer’s region raised more than $1.2 million for DU’s conservation mission during the fiscal year ending June 30.

Volunteers are the heart and soul of Ducks Unlimited, coordinating more than 4,000 local fundraising events that generate more than 400,000 memberships and more than $50 million annually.
