Ducks Unlimited, along with partners Wildlife Mississippi and The Nature Conservancy (TNC), hosted a Farm Bill Conservation Tour in May. The tour of a property in the Mississippi
Delta highlighted the U.S. Department of Agriculture Natural Resources Conservation Service’s (NRCS) Wetlands Reserve Program (WRP)
and North American Wetlands Conservation Act (NAWCA)
grant project sites. Sen. Debbie Stabenow (MI) and staff, Sen. Thad Cochran’s (MS) staff, and NRCS state conservationists for Mississippi, Louisiana and Arkansas attended.
Sen. Stabenow, chairwoman of the Senate Agriculture Committee, gave the keynote address at the Delta Council meeting earlier in the day in Cleveland, Miss., after Ranking Member Cochran introduced her. Sen. Roger Wicker (MS) was also in attendance.
Following a luncheon, DU Governmental Affairs Representative Ashlee Ellis and Southern Region Director Curtis Hopkins, along with staff from Wildlife Mississippi and TNC, guided the senators and their staff members on an ATV tour of the property outside Clarksdale to explain the importance of the conservation programs, the need to continue WRP funding in the farm bill and to reauthorize NAWCA.
