New Waterfowl Ammunition

Check out these waterfowl loads for the 2012-2013 season

The importance of shooting well in the blind cannot be stressed enough. Choosing the correct ammunition for you, your situation and your firearm is the first step. Here are a few new ammunition options for the 2012-2013 waterfowl season.

Black Cloud Ammo Offers Close-Range Patterns

Federal Premium has introduced Black Cloud Close Range, which is designed to provide more open patterns for duck gunners hunting in tight spaces, such as flooded timber. Featuring Flitestopper cutting-edge steel and Flitecontrol wad technology, these shells will be available in 12-gauge, 3-inch, 1 1/4-ounce loads of 2s, 3s, and 4s, as well as 20-gauge, 3-inch loads of 2s and 4s. Flitecontrol features a unique and patented wad design that stays with the shot longer, keeping patterns tight and velocity high.

Remington Hypersonic Steel Includes 10- and 20-Gauge Loads

Remington has expanded its Hypersonic Steel lineup to include 10-gauge, 3 1/2-inch, 1 1/2-ounce loads of BBBs, BBs, and 2s. In addition, new 20-gauge, 3-inch, 7/8-ounce loads of 3s and 4s will debut this year. At the heart of the Hypersonic Steel load is the Xelerator Wad. This newly designed wad features a unique ignition chamber that produces high velocities—up to 1,700 fps.

Winchester Blind Side Broadens Its Product Line

Winchester Ammunition continues to build on its Blind Side ammo line, loaded with stackable six-sided steel shot. Packing density allows Winchester to load up to 15 percent more pellets per shotshell. Its Diamond Cut Wad delivers consistent patterns and increases the kill zone. This new hinged wad system also reduces peak pressure, increases velocity, and reduces felt recoil. New to the Blind Side lineup this year are 12-gauge, 3 1/2-inch, 1 5/8-ounce loads of 1s and 3s; 12-gauge, 3-inch, 1 3/8-ounce loads of 1s, 3s, and 5s; 12-gauge, 2 3/4-inch, 1 1/4-ounce loads of 2s and 5s; and 20-gauge, 3-inch, 1 1/16-ounce loads of 2s and 5s. Twelve-gauge loads are rated at 1,400 fps, while 20-gauge loads are rated at 1,300 fps.

Hevi-Metal High Speed Introduces New Loads

The folks at Environ-Metal have been busy this year, introducing Hevi-Metal High Speed 10-gauge shotshells and a new look in its 12-gauge ammo line. Ten-gauge cartridges include 3 1/2-inch, 1 1/2-ounce loads of BBs, 2s, 3s, and 4s. Twelve-gauge ammo will be available in 2 3/4-inch, 1 1/8-ounce loads of 2s, 3s, and 4s. Velocity for both 10- and 12-gauge loads is rated at 1,500 fps. Complementing the company's varied waterfowl loads is a new series of Hevi-Shot choke tubes in 12- and 20-gauge designs.

Fiocchi Tundra is Made for Waterfowling

Fiocchi's Tundra loads, made from a tungsten-steel composite material, are designed specifically for waterfowling. The company actually offers two weight densities—one denser than bismuth and the other denser than lead. These shotshells are available in 12-gauge, 2 3/4-inch, 1 1/4- and 1 1/8-ounce loads; 3-inch, 1 3/8- and 1 5/8-ounce loads; and 20-gauge, 3-inch, 1-ounce loads. Shot sizes range from BBs to 6s in 12-gauge and from 1s to 5s in 20-gauge.

Rio BlueSteel Game Loads Go Super Magnum

Rio Ammunition has added the BlueSteel Super Magnum to its steel shot lineup. This 12-gauge, 3 1/2-inch shotshell is available in 1 3/8-ounce and 1 9/16-ounce loads of BBBs, BBs, 2s, 3s and 4s. The 1 3/8-ounce loads are rated at 1,550 fps and the 1 9/16-ounce loads have a velocity of 1,300 fps. Economical BlueSteel loads are also available in 12-gauge, 2 3/4- and 3-inch cartridges in a variety of shot sizes.
