DU seeks Senate support to pass NAWCA reauthorization measure this year

Following committee action on the Senate's version of the North American Wetlands Conservation Act (NAWCA) reauthorization bill, S. 2282, Ducks Unlimited is consulting with staff of Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (NV) and Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (KY), along with staff of Committee Chairman Barbara Boxer (CA) and Ranking Republican Jim Inhofe (OK), to discuss the potential and methods for moving the Senate's NAWCA reauthorization bill forward for floor consideration.

DU's hope is that the bill will either be considered during the relatively brief time the Senate will be in session in September or when the Senate meets between the November election and Christmas. There will be tremendous competition as we near the end of the 112th Congress because hundreds of bills ready for floor action will be competing for precious time on the Senate's calendar and on the floor. Also, with the potential for a six-month continuing resolution beginning in September, NAWCA reauthorization may be placed on hold until March.
